In 1993, after taking courses at Soochow from two Institute alumnae, Professor Chen came to Monterey to study English-Chinese Translation and Interpretation. As his interest in translation grew, Professor Chen decided to pursue a career in language by applying to become an undergraduate English major at Soochow University, Taiwan. Professor Chen began his interest in English-Chinese translation in the late 1980s as an editor and translator for a pop culture and music magazine published in Taiwan.
